D.O.G.S. Final Round at Modern Golf & Country Club

Hail the D.O.G.S.!!!!!,

We had a big turnout for the final round of our Modern Tournament with 38 players submitting scoresheets. A light rain was falling as players were arriving and thunder could be heard in the distance which had everyone wondering if we would even be able to play. However, the course was ready for us and we were on the tee boxes with a shotgun start at the appointed tee time and play began without delay. The rain and thunder quickly died away and it turned out to be a great day for golf. The pace was quick and players swiftly moved around the course chasing an elusive improvement score wherever they could find one.

Welcome to Lee Dong Hun, Mi Kyung Kim, Trent Prestegar, Max Sollfrank and Sri Sollfrank. We are glad you were all able to join us and we look forward to seeing more of you in the future.

This week we had 4 players with over 40 Stableford Points; James Stuart (48), Amol Singhal (43), Tony Anson (42) and Lee Dong Hun (43). Fortunately for them we are switching handicap systems this week (more on this in the announcements section) as in the past they would have received a substantial slashing to their playing handicap. The new system will be a little more lenient.

Dave Prosser began the day in the lead and had visions of winning his 3rd Big Dog but early in his round a 300 meter drive down the middle of the fairway was rewarded with the lie seen below. Perhaps a bit of foreshadowing that today would not be Dave's day.

In the battle for the daily prizes we had 2 double winners; Indar Dhaliwal took home the coveted Bobby Prize and Most Exercise awards and Amol Singhal was our Lowest Gross Winner with a smooth 80 and also the 1st Runner Up. James Stuart took home the Little Dog with his previously mentioned 48 (!) points.

Mark and Juju shocked at how many points James had.

While the weekly competition is fun and enjoyed by all, the real interest on Week 6 is, as always, who will win the Big Dog and Lowest Gross? Richard Mau with his consistent (some might say boring) play, was able to put such a stranglehold on 1st place in the Lowest Gross he was able to take the last 2 weeks off and still become our Modern 2019 Lowest Gross Champion!

Len Ogembo and Dave Prosser started off the Eclectic Tournament fast holding the top 2 spots between them in Weeks 1 through 5. Unfortunately, they weren't able to hold off the pack for one more week with Len taking the 2nd Runner Up and Dave receiving 1st Runner Up. Our eventual winner was sitting in 20th place after Week 2 but then began quietly creeping up the standings and then slipped by Len and Dave on the final week. Congratulations to Amol Singhal our Modern Eclectic Champion!

Full results can be seen on our Leaderboard.

During the prize giving ceremonies we also took some time to award Dave Prosser his Blue Jacket won last year at Riverside and then take some group photos.

Thank you to our committee members Sarah Brown, Kevin Dobson and Craig Edwards for all the hard work they put in and to everyone who pitches in on game days. Your efforts are much appreciated!

Next week we move to Pondok Cabe which has become a favorite and always has a good turnout. Grab a friend and sign up to play.

On February 23rd POCKSIA will join the D.O.G.S. for a friendly match. Following the round we will be having a barbecue at the course. In order to make sure we are catering for enough people we need to know numbers so please let us know ASAP if you are planning to come.

If you are interested in Captaining or simply playing on the D.O.G.S. team please also let us know via email. We will still have our regular D.O.G.S. competition on the day so playing in the friendly match is not a requirement to be part of the fun.

Regards,

Handicaps

As previously mentioned we are integrating into the system Tee Set uses to track their handicaps. As one may imagine this is a large undertaking. To cut down on the input, if a D.O.G.S player already had an established handicap at Tee Set no new scores were put in. For everyone else their most recent 20 scores (or as many as we could get) going back to 2017 were input into the system. We encourage everyone to login and check their handicap. If you feel the handicap is not representative please drop us an email and we will have a look at it. Scores are still being input so you may not find yourself until later in the week. The target is to have everything in place for our first round at Pondok Cabe.

Please note, what you will see in the system is a handicap index and may be be lower than your current D.O.G.S. handicap.

Going forward scores in D.O.G.S. and/or Tee Set matches will be uploaded once per week with no input required by players. To keep an as accurate as possible handicap we encourage players to submit scores from any outside games at Jakarta area courses that they play. To do this please send us a scanned copy of your scorecard which should include date, course played, tee box played and be signed by the player and playing partner.

More information is available on the Handicap page of our website.

Old Writeups

For those of you who like to take a trip down memory lane we have uploaded as many of the old emails we have been able to gather. There are some significant gaps, so if any Dogs are organized enough to still retain posts that aren't shown please forward them to us and we will get them up.

As always keep checking out upcoming events and golf tournament pages so you don't miss out.
