Format & Rules

  1. Format is match play single elimination, no second chance.

  2. Field of 33

    • Two players shall play a qualification for a place in a 32 team draw bracket

  3. The 8 top seeded players (lowest HC’s at time of draw) will be in separate groupings with 2 in each quarter of the draw.

  4. Non-seeded players drawn at random

  5. Matches to be completed on or before nominated date of each round. (first round to be completed by March 20)

  6. Player on bottom rung of bracket is considered the challenger and should initiate challenge to play.

    • If the challenge is rejected 3 times the challenger shall be declared the winner.

  7. All matches to be played during D.O.G.S. Eclectic tournaments unless agreed upon by both players.

    • Must be approved by committee before play.

  8. Players may play from the tee they use for D.O.G.S. Eclectic Play BUT must apply their handicap for that Tee.

    • If players are not playing from the same Tee, Matchplay “honour” shall be suspended and the player from the back tees will tee off first.

  9. HC will be official D.O.G.S. Course Handicap from myGolf2you.

    • Handicaps used will be current on date of play (not from registration).

    • The player with the higher handicap shall be given a number of strokes equal to the difference between their handicaps. The strokes to be granted on each hole with index up to that number.  For instance, if a player with handicap 14 plays a player on a handicap of 20 the higher handicapper receives a 1 stroke advantage on every hole from indexes 1 to 6.  If the difference is greater than 18 then two strokes to be given on every hole with index up to the excess over 18.

  10. For matches playing in eclectic rounds conceded putts and holes still need to be completed as per Eclectic rules to be counted in Eclectic scoring, also can only be conceded by the two competitors in the match play event.

  11. In the event of a tie players have the following options;

    • continuing in sudden death playoff holes if course permits

    • putting competition on practice green

      • 10 putts each from varying distance of 1 to 10 meters at 1 meter intervals

      • i.e first putt one meter, second putt 2 meters, third putt 3 meters and so on, alternating along the way who putts first most putts sunk wins

      • if still even at 10 m, repeat and first to miss is eliminated.

      • Replay of match if time permits before end of cycle.

  12. At the end of a match the result agreed upon by players will be considered final.  Any errors found later will not be considered as grounds to change the result

Note: Any disputes should be taken to the committee whose decision shall be final.
