D.O.G.S. First Round at Rainbow Hills Golf Club

Hail the D.O.G.S. !!!!!

The D.O.G.S. kicked off a brand-new six-week Eclectic competition at Rainbow Hills with another fantastic turnout. Once again, every available spot was taken and we even had a waiting list. Thank you to everyone for your continued support of the D.O.G.S.

Jakarta traffic did its best to interfere with the day, delaying the arrival of a few players. Fortunately, after a little reshuffling of the starting groups order and thanks to a very well-organized starter, everyone teed off right on schedule.

It was great to welcome Alamjit "AJ" Singh Sekhon, Rob Berling, and Simon Wright to their first D.O.G.S. round. We hope you all enjoyed the day and look forward to seeing you back again soon.

Conditions were excellent. The fairways were firm, providing plenty of extra roll, while the greens were exceptionally quick but true. Pace of play was also excellent, allowing everyone to be back in the clubhouse with plenty of time to shower before enjoying the sunset from the patio. Even Jakarta's smog played its part, taking just enough sting out of the sun to keep everyone from getting too well done.

A special mention also goes to Indar Dhaliwal, who clearly did his homework after reading last week's blog and turned up sporting red, white and blue in recognition of the 250th anniversary of the United States.

The prize table featured plenty of familiar faces. James Taylor and Roger Finnie claimed Nearest to Pin honours, while Lionel Sumner dominated the Longest Drive competition by taking home both prizes. Terence Martin and Indar Dhaliwal were our Drive & Pitch winners, while Bill Lloyd mastered the slick greens to become Putting Champion with 29 putts.

Cucu "The Bionic Woman" Chandra was all smiles collecting the Booby Prize. Considering she has recently undergone both hip and knee replacement surgery, simply being back out on the golf course was a victory in itself.

Michael Benner once again found himself collecting the Most Exercise award, while Matt Timbrell continued his excellent form from the previous tournament by claiming Lowest Gross with a fine 79.

Michael Adick finished Runner-Up before Rob Berling rounded out the afternoon by collecting the Little Dog as Weekly Champion with an impressive 42 points.

Congratulations, Rob, on a winning debut with the D.O.G.S.!

Congratulations to all of this week's winners!

After just one round, there is plenty of golf still to be played, but three familiar names have set the early pace. Matt Timbrell, Hitoshi Maruyama and Roger Finnie occupy the top three positions after Round 1.

Lionel Sumner, may well have joined them near the top had he managed something a little closer to 30 putts instead of 40! Such is the game of golf.

Full results can be viewed on the leaderboard.

We are currently working with the club to increase the number of starting positions available next week. If successful, we'll be able to accommodate more players.

Regardless, demand has been exceptionally strong, so sign up early to avoid disappointment and secure your place.

Rules Information

Double Hit? No Problem!

Ever hit a chip or bunker shot so badly that the club strikes the ball twice in one swing?

Under today's Rules of Golf, there is no penalty. Even if the club accidentally makes contact with the ball more than once during a single stroke, it counts as just one stroke.

This changed in 2019. Under the previous Rules, a double hit incurred a one-stroke penalty. Today, it's simply an unfortunate shot—play the ball from where it comes to rest.

It's another reminder that the modern Rules aim to remove penalties for accidents while preserving the spirit of the game.
