The potential to increase pace of play is definitely there. The ability to allow players to choose their tees should also be maintained as moving forward for big hitters with poor short game should not be enforced. As short hitters with good short game will be the beneficiary of an enforced change. It has the potential to reduce handicaps more quickly? The only downside is that it still gives the low handicap over 65 an advantage. But there is no perfect system. However you could remove the ability of age to be a factor and make it purely handicap driven. Over 15 you can choose the whites no option to take white due to age!

New system

Consider age change to 55 with option to play tee of choice and adjust hdcp accordingly

All good. Appreciate what y’all do.

The fundamental objectives of DOGS is for participants to enjoy their day ergo keep as much flexibility as possible. There is a definite deterioration of achievable distance with age. Since the handicap system now adjusts to tee colour compensation is built in - let people enjoy their day as they wish. More damage is done by players cleaning up on their first appearance on a self declared handicap.

You know my thoughts and the survey is worded all wrong and misses the main points nearly completely. 55 and above, not 65. Manditory tee boxes are rediculous when HCs are what they are in the.group.

Suggest recommended white tees for players 60+ years to keep safety/wellness in mind. Not mandatory, so if 60+ years still wants to play from blues, it’s ok. Hcp index will balance perceived advantages what this can bring. Trial this in the next 3-4 dogs tournament legs (6 months) and gather another round of feedback to further tweak if necessary. It’s okay to fix again if doesn’t perfectly work. And to remember, we can’t satisfy all and we will always hear complaints 🙏 good sprit and thanks for all organizers to keep this space enjoyable and compatible social golf club for all! Great work ⛳️

Well done for taking into consideration options to allow all to have fun. In the end it's the player vs the course

D.O.G.S. Tee Policy Review (Proposed Change)

Background

To ensure our tournaments remain fair, enjoyable, and competitive for all members, we are reviewing our current tee policy.

We currently have players with handicaps ranging from 0 to 36+, which makes tee selection increasingly important for both scoring fairness and pace of play.

Current Tee Policy

At present we play:

  • Gentlemen: Blue Tees

  • Ladies: Red Tees

Exceptions:

  • Men with a Course Handicap (CH) of 25 and above play White

  • Men aged 65+ may play White (with the option to play Blue if they prefer)

Important:
Players must play the same tees for the entire tournament.

Why This Is Being Reviewed

With such a wide handicap range, the current system can create two issues:

  • Lower handicaps may find courses less challenging if tees move too far forward.

  • Higher handicaps may face courses that are unnecessarily long, reducing scoring opportunities and slowing pace of play.

The objective is not to advantage or disadvantage any group, but to:

  • Improve competitive balance

  • Maintain good pace of play

  • Keep the system simple and transparent

Course Distance Reality (Jakarta Courses)

As a general guideline, players tend to enjoy courses most when the tee length roughly matches their handicap range:

  • 0–5 handicap: ~6,500–7,000

  • 6–15 handicap: ~6,000–6,400

  • 16–25 handicap: ~5,400–5,900

  • 26+ handicap: ~4,800–5,300

Most Jakarta courses broadly align as follows:

  • Blue: ~6,300–6,500

  • White: ~5,800–6,100

  • Red: ~5,200–5,500

This helps explain why a single tee for everyone does not always produce the best experience across the full field.

Administrative Reality

D.O.G.S. is run with limited administration:

  • We will not assess driving distance, club distances, swing speed, etc.

  • Tee selection must remain rule-based and simple

  • Tees remain fixed for the full 6-week series

  • Course Handicap is already calculated automatically by the scoring app

Any solution must be practical to operate week after week.

Proposed New Tee Policy

Men

  • CH 0–14 → Blue

  • CH 15 and above → White

  • Age 65+ → White (option to play Blue remains)

Ladies

  • All play Red (unchanged)

This approach is intended to better match course length to ability while remaining straightforward to administer.
