D.O.G.S. Fifth Game at Rainbow Hills Golf Club

Hail the D.O.G.S.!!!!!,

10 players turned up for our final round of the year at Rainbow Hills and were greeted with fine weather for the fifth week in a row.

Continuing to mix things up a bit, the Forest and Stone Hills courses were played this week. Play was underway on time and was smooth running with everyone back in the clubhouse in good time and in daylight.

Good to see Hitoshi Maruyama and Velma Yolanda back along with Dave Prosser.

Diarmuid Flannagan had a tough day winning both the Booby Prize and Most Exercise; it can only get better!

Dave and Hitoshi dominated the skills prizes except the Nearest the Pins which went to Timo Karonen and Rod Williams.

Timo took the Runner Up and Rod won his first Little Dog in many years with 43 points! Thank you to last week's Champion Timo for helping present to Rod.

Check out full results on our Leaderboard.

Thus ends our COVID affected season after 5 great rounds at Rainbow Hills.

Question 5: A player finds their ball by stepping on it in thick rough after searching for it for 2 minutes, causing it to move. What is the ruling?

Correct Answers

Question 1: A

Explanation: See definition of Animal Hole. An isolated animal footprint is not an animal hole.

Question 2: A

Explanation: See the definition of Teeing Area. The Teeing area is only 2 club lengths deep.

Question 3: A

Explanation: When starting a hole in match play, there is no penalty for playing from outside the teeing area, but the opponent may cancel the stroke and require the player to play from inside the teeing area (Rule 6.1b).

Question 4: B

Explanation: There is no penalty if the player’s ball is accidentally moved by anyone while trying to find it, but the ball must be replaced on its original spot. If the ball was covered by sand, the original lie must be re-created and the ball must be replaced in that lie, but the player may leave a small part of the ball visible when doing so. See Rule 7.4.

Question 5: B

Explanation: There is no penalty if a player causes her ball to move while trying to find or identify it. If the ball is moved during the search, the ball must be replaced on its original spot (which if not known must be estimated) (Rule 7.4).

Question 6: A

Explanation: As the player has caused his ball to move, he gets a penalty of one stroke and must replace the ball.

Question 7: A

Explanation: Nearest Point of relief can never be closer to the hole.

Please keep this in mind, when you drop your ball next time.

Question 8: B

Explanation: Relief is available for a ball that is embedded in the general area (except when it is embedded in sand in the general area, or if interference by something other than the ball being embedded makes the stroke clearly unreasonable).

Question 9: A

Explanation: As natural forces caused the player's ball to move, there is no penalty and the ball must be played from its new spot (Rule 9.3).

Question 10: A

Explanation: Before playing a ball in a bunker, a player may remove Movable Obstructions in any way without penalty under Rule 15.2.

Announcements

Player Safety

To ensure everyone's safety, players are reminded to follow the protocols set by Jakarta's COVID-19 Response Team:

  • Wear a mask properly wherever you go

  • Wash your hands with soap and running water regularly

  • Maintain a safe distance of 1.5 to 2 meters

Lastly, we certainly enjoy when you come out to play with us, but if you are ill, it is best to stay home and rest.

President's Challenge

Matches can be played anywhere at anytime as long as both players agree. Challengers are on the lower rung and should initiate the request to play. Check out the board to see who you are playing against.

If you need some help scheduling please ask anyone from the Committee and we'll be glad to assist.

WhatsApp Group

We have 2 WhatsApp groups for members; our Chatter group which is used for sharing jokes and non-D.O.G.S. related information and our Updates group where we share information specific to D.O.G.S. rounds. If you would like to be added to either or both of these groups please send us an email with your cell phone number to jakartadogs@gmail.com
