Hail the D.O.G.S.!!!!!
Even though we were playing on a Sunday with a later than usual start the D.O.G.S. saw another fantastic turnout with 64 players showing up to enjoy a stunning afternoon of golf. The usual few newcomers and some old faces we haven't seen for a while: so a big welcome to Terry Tyler and Brian Hernandez and a welcome back to Dave Prosser, Robert Bellavance and Mike Garwood - always good to see you guys back!
Thanks to a quick adjustment in starting holes, we were able to tee off ahead of schedule with a shotgun start on the back nine. While there were some reports of marshals needing to step in, the pace of play was mostly swift, and all players managed to finish in daylight - thanks to all and with almost everyone inputting scores into myGolf2u it makes compiling the results so much easier and faster - thanks again.
Here's our usual montage of the photos of the day...please remember to take as many photos as possible and send them in as it's always good to have a record of the days fun and games!
So, to the play: A full spread of winners this week with no double dipping! Jude and Vishal hit very accurate tee shots to take the Nearest to the Pin prizes as did Richard Mau and Brian Hernandez with their approach shots to take the Drive & Pitch prizes. Bilal Aleem and Gracie Prangel hit long and straight drives to take the Longest Drive honours and Rey Moore had her flat stick working winning the Putting Champion prize. TF Lee and Siti Fatimah had a slightly longer day than the rest of us taking the Booby Prize and Most Exercise Trophy respectfully. The outrageous Frenchman, Nic Verdenal, back from his travels, took the Low Gross prize. Gracie Prangel could only make the Runner Up slot as Sari Smith had a very good round, ensuring her handicap drops, to be this week's Champion.
A big congratulations to all our winners this week!
So, we're now getting to the business end of this Eclectic Series with only 2 rounds to go and Bobby Cangkrama continues to hold a strong lead but David Moore made some birdie improvements this week jumping up to second place. Just goes to show, it can still all change. Can Bobby hold on or will there be another birdie fest next week to close the gap....we will just have to wait and see! You can see the full Eclectic Leaderboard so far here.
On the Friday before our round fellow Dog Bill Lloyd hosted his annual charity golf day consisting of the epic 45 Hole Challenge and thrilling 18 Hole Competition. Many D.O.G.S. members teed up to show off their golfing prowess, all in the noble cause of the conservation of Sumatran Tigers.
Susanty Bruce, Kevin Dobson and Agnes Berkenhoff presented a check on behalf of the D.O.G.S. from collections during our Rancamaya 2024 tournament. For the record, they all completed the 45 Hole Challenge!
At the time of writing, we are at capacity for our penultimate round. The course restricts us to 64 players although we are trying to get more. If you discover that registration is closed, reach out to either Rod or John so we can add you to the waiting list. Each week, cancellations have freed up spaces, so stay hopeful. Also, if for any reason you need to cancel, please let us know as soon as you can - we understand that circumstances can change as the week progresses.
If you have a group you would like to play with let Rod know your preferred playing partners and make sure you have confirmed that your preferred playing partners are their preferred playing partners!

Rules Information
The current venue is in great condition and everyone is enjoying playing the course. One issue we have seen is that some of the bunkers have exposed liners. What happens if you find your ball next to one of these?
This is considered an Immovable Obstruction and the answer can be found in Rule 16.1c. You have 2 options one comes without penalty and one with.
You can read the rules copied and pasted below from the USGA website or just watch this video. They use stairs to illustrate the point but the same ruling applies to the liner.
16.1 Abnormal Course Conditions (Including Immovable Obstructions)
This Rule covers free relief that is allowed from interference by animal holes, ground under repair, immovable obstructions or temporary water:
These are collectively called abnormal course conditions, but each has a separate definition.
This Rule does not give relief from movable obstructions (a different type of free relief is allowed under Rule 15.2a) or boundary objects or integral objects (no free relief is allowed).
a. When Relief Is Allowed
(1) Meaning of Interference by Abnormal Course Condition. Interference exists when any one of these is true:
The player’s ball touches or is in or on an abnormal course condition,
An abnormal course condition physically interferes with the player’s area of intended stance or area of intended swing, or
Only when the ball is on the putting green, an abnormal course condition on or off the putting green intervenes on the line of play.
If the abnormal course condition is close enough to distract the player but does not meet any of these requirements, there is no interference under this Rule.
See Committee Procedures, Section 8; Model Local Rule F-6 (the Committee may adopt a Local Rule denying relief from an abnormal course condition that only interferes with the area of intended stance). The D.O.G.S. have not adopted any such rule.
(2) Relief Allowed Anywhere on Course Except When Ball Is in Penalty Area. Relief from interference by an abnormal course condition is allowed under Rule 16.1 only when both:
The abnormal course condition is on the course (not out of bounds), and
The ball is anywhere on the course, except in a penalty area (where the player’s only relief is under Rule 17).
(3) No Relief When Clearly Unreasonable to Play Ball. There is no relief under Rule 16.1:
When playing the ball as it lies would be clearly unreasonable because of something from which the player is not allowed to take free relief (such as when a player is unable to make a stroke because of where the ball lies in a bush), or
When interference exists only because a player chooses a club, type of stance or swing or direction of play that is clearly unreasonable under the circumstances.
See Committee Procedures, Section 8; Model Local Rule F-23 (the Committee may adopt a Local Rule allowing free relief from interference by temporary immovable obstructions on or off the course). The D.O.G.S. have not adopted any such rule.
c. Relief for Ball in Bunker
If a player’s ball is in a bunker and there is interference by an abnormal course condition on the course, the player may take either free relief under (1) or penalty relief under (2):
(1) Free Relief: Playing from Bunker. The player may take free relief under Rule 16.1b, except that:
The nearest point of complete relief and the relief area must be in the bunker.
If there is no such nearest point of complete relief in the bunker, the player may still take this relief by using the point of maximum available relief in the bunker as the reference point.
(2) Penalty Relief: Playing from Outside Bunker (Back-on-the-Line Relief).
For one penalty stroke, the player may drop the original ball or another ball (see Rule 14.3) outside that bunker, keeping the spot of the original ball between the hole and the spot where the ball is dropped (with no limit on how far back the ball may be dropped). The spot on the line where the ball first touches the ground when dropped creates a relief area that is one club-length in any direction from that point, but with these limits:
Limits on Location of Relief Area:
Must not be nearer the hole than the spot of the original ball, and
May be in any area of the course except the same bunker, but
Must be in the same area of the course that the ball first touched when dropped.
