D.O.G.S. Final Round at Riverside Golf Club

Hail the D.O.G.S.!!!!!

So, we came to the final round in our first Eclectic Series of 2024 with all the Dogs out to play. We started with rain back in January and we finished with rain. At least this time most of the 46 players finished in reasonable time despite a short break in the middle due to a passing heavy storm. This, unfortunately, made the going tough with very wet fairways and slower greens.

Some newcomers this week, Abijit Singh, Hany Ismail, Tharwat Hamza and Mahesh Sarode - a big welcome to you all and we hope to see you all again on the next game.

Being the Chinese New Year weekend, the course was very quiet, so the starters spread us out over 7 holes for the semi-shotgun resulting in a steady pace of play and starting on time as we have every week - thanks Riverside!

So, to the week's play: Meher Noronha was certainly on form today taking both Longest Drive prizes. The ladies continued to find success with Rey Moore taking one of the Drive & Pitch prizes with the other going to John Packer. Hitoshi and Craig Stewart successfully negotiated the ravines to take the Nearest to the Pin prizes.

Jude Alexander had the flat stick working on these difficult greens taking the Putting Champion prize. Unfortunately, a couple of players struggled a bit more than the rest with Sari Smith taking the Booby Prize and Paul Barnett the Most Exercise Trophy.

Although Meher was on form today, she had to settle for the Runner Up prize as Agnes Berkenhoff showed that you can go from "zero to hero" in a few rounds to be this week's Champion and taking the Little Dog home!

A big congratulations to all our winners this week!

So, now we come to the race for the Big Dog and the much coveted Blue Jacket!

The top four, Nic, Willie, Richard and Leon decided to battle it out in the same flight just to add to the tension with only 2 points separating them. Could Nic hold onto his lead? Would someone outside the top 4 come from behind and take the glory? The wet conditions would certainly make it challenging. Well, the upset nearly happened with Meher Noronha improving 2.9 points in this final round to jump from 6th place to Runner Up and only 0.2 behind our back-to-back Blue Jacket and Big Dog Champion, Nic Verdenal. Nic also took the Lowest Gross Average trophy.

You can see the full fianl results on the Leaderboard page or in the myGolf2u app as usual.

And our customary Blue Jacket parade with past winners!

Rules Information

When the Rules of golf were revised in 2019 ready golf was encouraged. While there is usually no penalty for playing out of turn in stroke play it can be costly in match play. With JIL about to start everyone should be aware of the differences. This article explains when and when not to play out of turn.
