Hail the D.O.G.S.!!!!!

D.O.G.S. recon JGC during Australia Day Tournament

For our fifth Eclectic Series of the year we headed to the Jakarta Golf Club in Rawamangun, the oldest golf club in Indonesia going back to 1872. A tight course with some longish holes to definitely favour the straight hitters. This is the first time the D.O.G.S. have been here which, after the festivities of Royale Krakatau last weekend, just adds to us always keen to offer new experiences to all players.

Many of us had played the previous day in the Australian Embassy Golf Day so we had the chance to recon before our 6 week haul. Our friends from POCKSIA joined us for their June Medal making for a great turnout of 54 players.

Some new faces and some we haven't seen for a while: so, a big welcome to Jae Park, Kulbir Sachdev and Jens Muller and to the Filipino group of Marcelo De Jesus, Emiliano Marcelo, Jay Punongbayan and Jowel Tacata - all regulars at JGC.

The course gave us a semi shotgun off the front nine and we just about got off on time. The weather looked a bit threatening and we did have some light rain for a few holes but not enough to halt proceedings. Play was steady albeit a bit slow - usual reminder about slow play please - but the cause may well have been due to others on the course - this is a very popular course. Anyway, everyone finished just in time before darkness descended.

So, to the play:

A good spread of winners this week which is always good to see. Rosie Tjaden and Jens Muller showed their accuracy off the tee to take the Nearest to the Pin honours as did Nic "the outrageous Frenchman" Verdenal and Richard "Chairman" Mau with their approach shots to take the Drive & Pitch prizes. Jay Punongbayan and Nanin Provance showed their skills in driving straight and avoiding the woodwork which lines every fairway to take the Longest Drive Prizes.

No surprises to see Roger Finnie show us all how to use the flat stick by becoming the week's Putting Champion.

Despite Jens Muller winning one of the Nearest to the Pin prizes it seems that was as good as it was going to get as he rounded off his day taking the Most Exercise Trophy. Lee Jones seems to also struggle with the tight course taking the cricket bat Booby Prize this week.

Old Dog Darren Kelso had a good round taking the Lowest Gross prize. So the top prizes were split on count back with a regular player of the course Marcel De Jesus having to settle for the Runner Up prize leaving the way for newcomer Jae Park to win his first Little Dog and be this week's Champion.

A big congratulations to all our winners!

This being only the first week in the series, nothing much to report as there's still 90 holes left to decide the Big Dog and Blue Jacket winner but please check out the full results so far here.

He was leading the Eclectic for most of the tournament but could not make the final round; here is Richard Mau collecting his Runner Up Dog for the Imperial 2024 Tournament.

So now we head to the second week at JGC so please sign up as soon as possible and don't forget to let Rod know your preferred playing partners. Please also make sure you have confirmed that your preferred playing partners are their preferred playing partners!
