Hail the D.O.G.S.!!!!!
So we come to our 8th and final Eclectic Series of 2024 - doesn't time fly past so quick when you're having fun! The much-improved Pondok Cabe was the venue and the course was in good condition with very good and consistent greens. a great turnout of some 46 players made the relatively short journey - at least in distance - to the course including a couple of faces we haven't seen for a while. Welcome back Shaun Cunningham and Mikko Heinonen. Good to see you guys again and hope to see much more of you in the future.
We got off reasonably on time with a semi shotgun off the back nine and pace of play was good. The weather was just kind enough to allow everyone to finish in good time despite some light rain part way through the round - but not enough to cause any stoppages - I think we were lucky!
So, to the play: a good spread of winners this week other than the Frenchman Nic Verdenal who took one each of the Nearest to the Pin and Drive & Pitch prizes. Nobody managed to stay on the green on Hole 4 to claim the other Nearest to the Pin prize but Paul Eckhardt did take the other Drive & Pitch prize - his first real skills prize! The Longest Drives went to Hitoshi and Chris Barnett. Claudio Ghelli had his flat stick working well to become this week's Putting Champion on these very consistent greens.
Quenten Smith and Anthony Quigley couldn't stay around afterwards to claim their Booby and Most Exercise trophies - never mind, we'll get you next time!
Nic Verdenal is clearly set on defending his Big Dog from Pondok Cabe last year by taking the Low Gross with an impressive 1 over par but it took a count back to see him also take the Little Dog home from Richard Mau. It was actually Nic's first Little Dog to go with his 2 Big Dogs previously.
Cause of darkness - well it was very dark most of the afternoon - we almost needed the lights for most of the round!

With this being only the first round out of the six, not much to report on the standings in the race for the Big Dog but you can see the full results here.
Mark your calendars and sign up early to play our final round and enjoy our End of Year Party on the 14th December. We are looking for sponsors so if you know someone who is interested please share contact details with the committee.
Next week we have to move to Sunday due to another tournament on the Saturday so, make sure to secure your spot early for the second round as usual. We will shotgun start at 12 Noon so please be there in good time. If you have a specific group you wish to play with, inform Rod of your preferred playing partners and ensure that your choices align with theirs,

Rules Information
Hole's 1 & 16 at Pondok Cabe have a shared green; what happens if your ball lands on the wrong green? The good news is there is no penalty, however you must take relief. Even if you have a clear path to putt your ball you are not allowed to hit it, this would result in a penalty. More information may be found here.
How do you know where one green ends and the other starts? There are white stakes denoting the line between the two greens.
