D.O.G.S. Fourth Round at Gunung Geulis Country Club

Hail the D.O.G.S. !!!!!

With 24 players registered for Round 4, the D.O.G.S. returned to Gunung Geulis on Saturday for another crack at improving their Eclectic scores.

The course was full, which meant play was a little slower than we would have liked. Fortunately, everyone managed to finish their rounds, although the greens continued to test both the skill and patience of our players.

A reminder to everyone: if you register but your plans change and you cannot attend, please let us know. It helps enormously with organizing the groups and avoiding unnecessary delays.

After two consecutive weeks of flags being left out on the course, President JB made it abundantly clear who was responsible for collecting them on the back nine.

Unfortunately, this week it was the President himself who managed to create the problem!

JB forgot to put out the flag on Clove 4, our 13th hole. Realizing his mistake at the turn, he handed the flag to Sepand Zarrabi, who had forgotten to pick them up last week.

Sepand had a good laugh at the President's expense before driving off with the flag.

And then promptly forgot to put it out himself!

So, after three weeks of reminders about collecting flags, we've now progressed to forgetting to put them out in the first place. And not just once, but twice on the same hole!

On the positive side, all five flags that actually made it onto the course were returned. Progress of sorts!

Thanks to everyone for helping out. Hopefully, next week we can manage the full cycle of putting out six flags and bringing all six back.

The Drive & Pitch competition on Garden 4 provided some entertainment of its own.

Jens Roestel played a lovely approach to finish close to the flag. Unfortunately, he was above the hole, and with the prospect of a slippery downhill birdie putt, Jens couldn't quite summon the courage to give it enough pace.

He settled for par, but at least had the consolation of collecting the Drive & Pitch prize.

As it turned out, Jens may have been the sensible one.

Later in the day, both John Brown and Alberto Gonzalez found themselves above the same hole, just off the green. Their attempts to delicately putt down from the fringe ended with both balls disappearing into the bunker below the green!

What had started as a possible par opportunity suddenly became an exercise in avoiding a disaster.

The Gunung Geulis greens continued to confound players, although Sepand handled them better than most, taking the Putting Champion honours with just 26 putts.

A reminder that myGolf2u does not record putting statistics, so players must total their putts on their scorecards before handing them in. Cards without a putting total are not eligible for the Putting Champion award.

A quick glance at some of the un-totalled scorecards suggested a few players had already decided their putting wasn't going to win them any prizes and couldn't be bothered adding them up. But you never know! What felt like a dreadful day on the greens might just turn out to be good enough. After all, if everyone else had an even worse day, you could be sitting on a winning score without realizing it!

You can't win if you don't tally up your putts!

Stuart Clark produced the standout shot in the Nearest to the Pin competitions, finishing an extraordinary 5 cm from the hole on Garden 7. You can't get much closer without the ball disappearing into the cup!

Richard Mau claimed the other Nearest to the Pin prize on Clove 2.

The Longest Drive honours went to Peter Beach on Garden 9 and John Brown on Clove 7, as previously mentioned Jens collected the Drive & Pitch prize on Garden 4. There was no winner on Clove 4, thanks to our flag drama.

We've already heard about Sepand's 26 putts, which earned him Putting Champion.

Marc Desilets certainly got his money's worth from the course, collecting the Most Exercise award with 113 strokes.

Meanwhile, Richard Mau showed that his game was firing on more than one cylinder. His excellent round of 76 secured the Lowest Gross award.

Sepand returned to the prize table as Runner-Up with an impressive 42 Stableford points. Between his putting, his scoring and his starring role in the flag saga, Sepand certainly had an eventful afternoon.

But one man went a point better.

Richard, already the Lowest Gross winner and a Nearest to the Pin winner, completed a superb afternoon by taking the Weekly Champion title and the Little Dog with 43 Stableford points!

Three prizes, a gross 76 and 43 points. Not a bad day's work, Richard!

Congratulations to all our winners!

Four rounds down and just two to go, and the Eclectic competition is starting to get interesting.

Chris Anderson continues to lead the way on 62.20, but Richard Mau has moved into second place on 65.00, with Peter Beach close behind on 66.50.

With two rounds remaining, there's still plenty of opportunity to improve those troublesome holes. A single birdie or a well-timed par could make all the difference before the final standings are settled.

Full results and standings are available on the leaderboard.

We are back to SUNDAY for our Penultimate round, with the Final round on Sunday, 1 November also serving as our Día de los Muertos celebration.

With just two rounds remaining in the Eclectic, now is the time to make those final improvements to your scores.

Please register early, let us know if your plans change, and arrive in plenty of time for the start.

And perhaps most importantly, let's see if we can get all six competition flags out onto the course and back again!

Día de los Muertos Round

Our final round at Gunung Geulis has moved to Sunday, November 1, so Halloween is out and Day of the Dead is in!

Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is not a sombre occasion, but a colourful and joyful celebration of remembrance—honouring family and friends who are no longer with us. That sounds like a theme the D.O.G.S. can get behind.

There will be a prize for the best Day of the Dead-inspired outfit, so think colourful rather than simply scary: decorated skulls, skeletons, flowers, sombreros, bright shirts, face paint—or whatever creative interpretation you can manage while still swinging a golf club.

We’re looking forward to seeing what the D.O.G.S. come up with — the more colourful and creative, the better!
