D.O.G.S. Penultimate Round at Modern Golf & Country Club

Updated: Mar 18

Hail the D.O.G.S.!!!!!

As has been the case all year players woke up to heavy morning rain wondering if golf was on. 34 players headed out to the course to see what the golf gods would provide. Play was set to go off a shotgun start on the back nine, with another large group teeing off on the front nine. The starter has done a great job all tournament and this day was no different with play starting exactly on time. Players moved around at a steady pace in very soggy conditions. Halfway through the round it looked like we would be delayed as a heavy downpour moved in. However, it only delayed play for a few minutes for some of the groups and play continued for the now wet golfers. Everyone was in the clubhouse to share their stories long before darkness fell.

Welcome to Chris Yates and Manik Oberoi who was brought along by his brother Jeremy. We hope you enjoyed the round and will be back for more rounds in the future.

The sloppy conditions on the course made scoring tough but there were some good scores posted and our weekly winners found the shots they needed to take a prize. Holger Molendyk and John Packer shared the Nearest to Pin prizes. A lost flag led to a delay in finding who was the winner on Hole 11. It was only found out after the prize ceremony that John won it but he unfortunately missed his moment in the spotlight. Thus we are calling attention to his great shot with a photo of John holding back the tears while displaying his prize.

Harald Fitzek and Bradley Namkoong won the Longest Drive holes. Stick around for your prize next time Bradley.

Willi Noronha and Don Duttlinger won the Drive & Pitch honours. Playing partners Arne Tjaden and Don were equidistant from the hole with their approach shots on 16; as Arne was unable to stick around after golf Don was awarded the prize.

The weather made for tough going on the greens and President John Brown was surprised to see his 31 putts win him the Putting Champion award. Paul Barnett was a double winner taking home the Booby Prize and Most Exercise awards. Holger Molendyk slipped by Jeremy Oberoi on count back to take Lowest Gross. Alessandro Perciante found that his 39 Stableford points were only good enough for Runner Up. Don Duttlinger had no problem with the less than desirable conditions and waltzed away from the pack with 45 points to win Weekly Champion.

A big congratulations to all our winners this week!

As expected, there was lots of movement in the Eclectic this week with some new faces entering the top 10 while others dropped out. Don Duttlinger's mastery of the wet conditions propelled him to the top of the standings with a 2.8 point cushion over 2nd place Diarmuid Flanagan. There are still lots of bogeys on the scorecards of many top 10 players so this competition is far from being decided. Full results after the fourth round can be seen on the Leaderboard page or in the myGolf2u app as usual.

Also this weekend Jakarta Inter-league kicked off play and Captain Dougy led the D.O.G.S. to an 8 - 1 win over the Cloggies. Everyone was looking smart in their 2024 jerseys; wear them with pride. Great start to the campaign and well done team!

Next week all the Dogs will be at the course waiting to find their new homes. Tension will be high as players try to close out the pars that have eluded them over the past 5 rounds, and/or get a birdie, allowing them to hoist the Big Dog in triumph while wearing their Blue Jacket. So grab a friend and please sign up early to avoid disappointment and don't forget to let Rod know your preferred playing partners. Please also make sure you have confirmed that your preferred playing partners are their preferred playing partners!
