D.O.G.S. Penultimate Round at Riverside Golf Club

Hail the D.O.G.S.!!!

A total of 37 players came for our 5th and penultimate eclectic round of the year. The final match of the President's Challenge 2022 was also played between Hitoshi Maruyama and Michael Mueller - but more on that later.

The weather looked threatening but fortunately the storms held off and after an on-time shotgun start everyone was finished and back in the club house in good time. A big welcome to Jiro Kamigatakuchi who joined us for the first time - always great to see new faces.

So down to the play: Sam Westen had a good day taking one of the Longest Drive and Drive & Pitch prizes as well as being this week's Runner Up. The girls always feature these days with Reysia Moore taking the Nearest to the Pin but Sri Sollfrank took the Most Exercise trophy with a very respectable score - it usually takes a lot more exercise than that to win. Manish Patel took the other Nearest to the Pin, Richard Mau the other longest Drive and Eric Mary the other Drive & Pitch.

David Moore had his putter working becoming this week's Putting Champion but, uncharacteristically Jude Alexander went home with the little cricket bat Booby Prize.

Axel Hertzke had the best round of his life winning both the Lowest Gross and this week's Champion taking the Little Dog - great round Axel!

Congrats Axel - keep it going mate!

A big congratulations to all our winners!

As mentioned above the final of the President's Challenge Matchplay was played between Hitoshi and Michael Mueller with Michael seeking revenge for Japan's victory over Germany in the World Cup. Well he got his revenge in commanding style defeating Hitoshi 5 & 3 - congratulations Michael, you will be suitably crowned next week during the Party festivities.

Today also saw Jeremy Oberoi celebrating his 31st birthday - can't believe he's only 31! Not sure how much of the day he remembers but here's a couple of photos to remind him - thanks to Indar for providing the cake!

So with only the final round to go things continue to be tight at the top of the Eclectic leaderboard with only 2 points separating the top 3 but Claudio is still holding on.

Check out the full standings on our Leaderboard page or in the mygolf2u app.

In a singles match, Player A has the honour on the 5th hole. He hits his ball towards some thick bushes and decides to play a provisional ball. What is the correct order of play?

A - Player A must play his provisional ball before Player B hits her tee shot.

B - Player A must play his provisional ball after Player B hits her tee shot.

C - Player A may choose to play his provisional ball either before or after

Player B hits her tee shot.

Correct answer B

Explanation: When a player will play a provisional ball from the teeing area, the order of play is for all other players in the group to make their first stroke on the hole before the player plays the provisional ball.

A player may repair natural wear of the hole on the putting green before putting.

A - True

B – False

Correct answer B

Explanation: A player may repair damage on the putting green, however, "damage on the putting green" does not include any damage or conditions that result from natural wear of the hole

A strong gust of wind causes a players ball to move on the putting green before she has had a chance to mark, lift and replace the ball. The player must replace her ball on the

original spot.

A - True

B – False

Correct answer B

Explanation: If natural forces (such as wind or water) cause the player's ball at

rest to move, there is no penalty, and the ball must be played from its new spot.

There is an exception to this, which states that if the ball on the putting green

moves after it had already been lifted and replaced, the ball must be replaced on its original spot, however as the ball had not been lifted, that does not apply here

If a player makes a hit with the back of the club head or with one of the sides of the club head, this is allowed.

A - True

B – False

Correct answer A

Explanation: A player may play the ball with any part of the club head. During putting the player must be careful not to stand on or over the putting line.
