Hail the D.O.G.S.!!!!!
So we came to the halfway stage in our final Eclectic Series of the year with a great turnout of 47 players. Our friends from the Jakarta Golf Club had also challenged us to a matchplay with Captain Emiliano Marcelo leading their team into battle again the D.O.G.S. team led by the one and only Frenchy Nic Verdenal.
Well, things got off to a god start on time with our usual semi shotgun and very hot and humid conditions - a sure sign that things could change. They did! Most players managed to get in around 14 or 15 holes before the heavens opened and brought thunder and lightening with it. Play was stopped and, unfortunately, never got going again. However, all holes completed still count towards the eclectic so not all was lost.
A word about safety under such conditions: The marshals and starters closely watch their weather radars to see how close lightening is to the course. Once lightning comes too close, usually around 10 Km, they will sound the siren and suspend play. This is for the safety of both players and caddies. When there is heavy rain and you are some distance from the club house it can be difficult if not impossible to hear the siren. If you notice lightning appears close but you haven't heard the siren ask your caddie to check with the clubhouse. The caddies themselves may not take the initiative as they are worried about keeping the golfer happy. The first priority should always be safety, not finishing your hole or round. There's always another opportunity to play golf.
So, the Little Dog has to wait for another day, but we decided to do a lucky draw and give away some prizes - always a good reason to make sure you hand in your scorecard.
So, with the holes completed counting the Eclectic leaderboard saw some changes with Nic holding on to his lead comfortably but can now only improve with birdies. Ash Hewitt has jumped into second place hoping to can catch Nic - or will someone come from further down the leaderboard to clinch the top spot. Rules Information
Your ball just hit another ball on the green; what happens next? It depends, where were you hitting your ball from? If you were off the green, no penalty. Play your ball as it lies and return the other ball to where it was before it was struck. No penalties.
However, if you were on the green it's a different story. A golfer on the green who's ball strikes another ball that was on the green before the stroke gets a 2 stroke penalty and must return to the original spot and putt again.
