Hail the D.O.G.S.!!!!!

A huge turnout for our penultimate round of the Eclectic Tournament, with players chasing those elusive improvements to get in position for a shot at taking home the Big Dog next week.

Despite the beautiful golfing weather, a shadow hung over the group as we all struggled to come to terms with the sudden passing of our good friend and fellow member, Gary Millburn, on Friday afternoon. Gary’s smiling face and ever-cheerful attitude will be deeply missed by the Jakarta golfing community.

Since joining the D.O.G.S., Gary’s positivity and warmth brought joy to every round he played with us. We send our heartfelt condolences to Putri and his family back in the UK during this difficult time.

There will be a wake at the Bull & Vine this Thursday evening starting at 7pm. If you are planning to attend please let us know through the polls out on the WA groups.

We did have a few newcomers and guests this week, so we say a big welcome to Chris & Javas Felley, Elliot, Chris Wilson and Stuart Clark. Great to see you all and please become regulars.

The course was quite busy in the morning, but they got us off reasonably on time. Play was a bit slow to start with but soon picked up with everyone finished in daylight and ready to enjoy cool beverages

So to the play: Well young Carter Cross, straight back from the UK, hit a couple of monster drives and managed to keep them in the fairway to take both the Long Drive prizes. The other prizes were fairly well spread amongst players with John Packer managing to stop talking long enough to hit a very accurate tee shot to take one of the Nearest to the Pin prizes, the other going to Chris Anderson up from down under to join us. John Gustke, who will now be away for the next several months, and newcomer Chris Wilson took the Drive & Pitch honours.

Now usually we say that the Putting Champion becomes a member of the "Missing all the Greens Club" but we will make an exception in this case. Nanin had just bought a new putter - an Evnroll Zero Z1 - and it certainly paid off helping her to take the prize!

Viora picked up her Booby and Most Exercise prizes - second week running!! - never mind, at least your scores were considerably better than last week.

Having thumped a couple of great drives Carter also shot the lowest gross of the day taking that prize.

Congratulations to all of this week's winners.

Our one and only Mr. Dobson gratefully presented himself with the Runner Up prize leaving Paul Barnett to have a great round scoring the highest winning point total in this series taking the Little Dog home as this week's Champion.

So, with only one round left, the top of the leaderboard still has room for improvements for all players with Jacob Smith sitting at the top but only 4.5 points separate the top five. So, it's still all to play for. You can check out the full results on the leaderboard.

Get ready for next week as we head into our final round where the Big Dog will come out to play with the Mini Dogs and Little Dog - a full pack - and for previous Blue Jacket winners, don't forget to bring yours to help celebrate with the new Champion.

Rules Information

The D.O.G.S. play with Model Local Rule E-5 which provides an alternative to stroke-and-distance relief when a ball is lost or out of bounds. Instead of hitting from the spot of the previous stroke, this rule allows a player to drop a ball within a defined relief area, with a two-stroke penalty.

Manila Dogs 25th Anniversary

Our founder, Fritz Hainzl, was originally a member of the Manila Dogs. When he moved to Jakarta, he saw an opportunity to create a similar organization—what we now know as the Djakarta Old Golf Society (D.O.G.S.)

On Sunday, March 15, 2026, the Manila Dogs will be celebrating their 25th Anniversary at Club Intramuros Golf Course in Manila.

John and Rod are planning to travel and join them for this special occasion.
