Royale Krakatau Challenge

Hail the D.O.G.S.!!!!!

Go West, Young Man - or in our case Young Ladies as well - as the expression goes - so we did, some 100km west to be exact to the Royale Krakatau Golf & Country Club for the second of what is now our annual Challenge tournament with our friends from TeeSet. The challenge was a Stableford competition over 2 rounds on the Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning with dinner at the Magal Korean Restaurant and an overnight stay in the Royale Krakatau Hotel. With an early tee off on the Sunday morning, there were a few tired and sore heads for sure - but that's part of the Challenge!

On both days we were treated to refreshing San Miguel beverages from our sponsors who joined us for the game and dinner on Saturday.

Some 38 players joined the first round with 23 making it to the second day. The conditions and weather were just about perfect - great to be out of the pollution we see most of the time in Jakarta, something we perhaps don't really notice until we venture out for weekends like this.

So, we got off on time with a semi shotgun and play proceeded at a good pace as the course was not so busy. Unfortunately, we had only gotten to the third hole when Ash Hewitt, felt his calf muscle tear as he was standing rather precariously over his ball which was just off the fairway. This was the end of his weekend unfortunately but he did continue to support his playing partners by ensuring he drank as much as they did for the rest of the round - it was, in his case, for purely medicinal purposes. We've checked in with Ash and are happy to report that the prognosis is he should heal with some rest and physio. Watch your step on uneven surfaces everyone.

So, the scores from Saturday's round were carried over to Sunday where both were combined to give the overall results. We did have Nearest to the Pin, Longest Drive and Drive & Pitch prizes for each day - oh, and for some reason we picked a par 5 for a Drive & Pitch so we changed it to Nearest to the Pin in Regulation - 3 shots - little chance of getting on that green in 2!

The dinner in the evening was as good as last year with live music and plenty of suitable refreshments. We also ran a small raffle with prizes coming from our sponsors Asian Tigers, Bull & Vine, Pool Care, and Magal, ....We were also treated to some attempts to sing karaoke by our Filipino friends aided by our very own JB. There are videos but we don't think we should subject anyone to more torture than they had to endure on the night....don't give up your day job JB!

So, to the results: the skills prizes were shared by a select few, it seems, with Shinta taking a Nearest to the Pin prize on both days. JB and Tim Knight took the other Nearest to the Pin prizes. The Longest Drives went to Tim Knight, JB, Nanin and Jacob Smith. The drive & Pitch - including on the par 5, went to Shinta, Jens, Jerico Gascon and John Gustke - obviously recovered from hi trek around Lombok last week!

All the other prizes were for combined scores from the 2 rounds with Roger Finnie taking the Best Gross Overall, Shinta - yet again - taking the Best Nett overall which left the top prizes to Cucu Chandra sitting in 3rd place in the combined Stableford, Jacob Smith in the Runner Up position and Shinta Sari taking the Royale Krakatau Challenge Trophy to be our Champion for 2025.

Thank you to Craig Edwards who sent us golf balls to give out to the winners along with their trophies. This year we introduced our new perpetual trophy for what is now an annul event, so Shinta's name will be suitably engraved on it and - please return it for next year as our defending Champion!!

A big congratulations to all our winners this week. Full results can be found here.
