D.O.G.S. Final Round at Jagorawi Golf & Country Club

Hail the D.O.G.S.!!!!!

So, the final round of this challenging Eclectic Series came upon us. The Dog Family came out to play and the Blue Jacket was up for grabs with a very tight leaderboard. Who was going to take the honours on a very hot and humid afternoon. Was the Z-Nine going to provide the improvements needed or would the slightly more forgiving New Course make way for some more par's and birdie's. Rain threatened but held off until after we had all finished - and then did it rain some!. Out of the 41 players who turned up it's always good to see some newomers as ususal this week; a big welcome to Marc Miller, Gene Miller, Ryan Sefiane and Paul Eckhardt, and a welcome back to Bryn Griffiths, James Talylor, Sepand Zarrabi and Peter Hogewoning.

We got off on time with the usual semi shotgun on the Z-Nine - a big thanks to the management and staff at Jagorawi for getting us started on time every week. Play was steady with everyone finishing in reasonable time and before the rains started.

So, to the day's play first: Minn Tun and Arne Tjaden showed us how to hit the greens winning the Nearest to the Pin prizes as did Luca Parolin and Chris Anderson for the Drive & Pitch honours. John Brown along with Bradley Namkoong kept their drives in the fairway winning the Longest Drive prizes. Robson Drumond had the flat stick working well to become our Putting Champion this week but, rather uncharacteristically, Chris Barnett had a tough day at the office winning the Booby Prize. Newcomer Paul Eckhardt came, saw but didn't conquer the course winning this week Most Exercise Trophy.

Alessandro Perciante had a good day in taking the Lowest Gross prize but unfortunately lost on a count back in having to settle for the Runner Up honour this week.

This left Michael Mueller to take the Little Dog and the bottle of wine from the Wine Cartel home and be crowned this week's Weekly Champion.

A big congratulations to all our winners this week.

David Moore had a steady round this week!

As did Minn Tun!

Now to the Eclectic results - well it was tight before this final round, and as is so often the case, all to play for - could Leon hold on? - who would make it into the top 10?....well, all was revealed.

Minn Tun managed to push Renny and Nicolas Verdenal aside to take the Runner Up spot taking home a Mini Dog, but Renny held on to third spot to also take home a Mini Dog.

Well, yes - Leon Bivolaru held on to win his first Blue Jacket and take the Big Dog home - great results guys!

Nicolas Verdenal didn't go home empty handed though - he won the Lowest Gross Average.

You can see the full Eclectic results on the Leaderboard page or in the myGolf2u app.

And just to add to the celebrations - it was Vonny Bivolaru's birthday on the day as well. So we celebrated with a good cake - a happy day in the Bivolaru household for sure!

Our Charity Barrel collected IDR 5,391,000 over the 6 weeks which will go to the Pondok Al Wafa charity - thanks everyone who contributed.

Now we move on to our final Eclectic Series of 2023 where we will go back to Pondok Cabe Golf Club. The course is in even better conditions than at the start of the year and the new renovated men's locker room should be ready for us - they'll start on the lady's locker room next!

Just a heads up on a few events over the forthcoming weeks at Pondok Cabe.

  1. Saturday the 18th November, POCKSIA will be joining us for their monthly tournament.

    1. Players are welcome to play in both competitions for no extra game fee.

  2. Sunday 26th November, Teeset will be joining us for their Annual Championship.

    1. Players are welcome to play in both tournaments but please let Teeset know if you will be joining their dinner festivities afterwards - they require payment in advance! More details on this are available on Teeset's website.

    2. There is no extra game fee if you want to play in both competitions during the day.

    3. Some of you have already noticed that you can't register for 2 different tournaments on Mygolf2u if they are on the same day - don't worry - as long as you register for at least one of tournaments, Rod will take care of the other.

  • On both days when POCKSIA and Teeset are joining us, the tournament will be running on the D.O.G.S. mygolf2u app only - this is due to the eclectic scoring for the D.0.G.S.

  • Any questions, please let us know.

As if this wasn't all enough, the D.O.G.S. will have their End of Year Party at Pondok Cabe on our 6th and final week there, the 16th December - more details to follow!

And there's more - the Capricorn Birthday Tournament (formerly Rod's Birthday Round) - for Capricorn Birthday celebrants - Paul Barnett, David Moore, Rod Williams, John Brown and Leon Bivolaru - will he held on Wednesday the 27th December at Pondok Cabe - it's up on mygolf2u so it's never too early to register. If there are any other Capricorn celebrants, please let us know!

So, back to next week - grab a friend or two and sign up. Don't forget to let Rod know your preferred playing partners. Please also make sure you have confirmed that your preferred playing partners are their preferred playing partners!

Also note that signing up early helps a lot in getting things ready with the club - thanks.

The Rules and what it means when we play.

Jens Roestel

R&A First Grade Umpire.

A player's ball lies just off the putting green. There is sand on the putting green between the ball and the hole that the player wishes to remove.

What is the ruling?

A - As the ball is not on the green the player must not remove the sand.

B - Sand is not a loose impediment and cannot be removed.

C - The sand on the green may be removed by any means.

Correct answer: C

Explanation: Any loose impediment can be removed anywhere, so sand and loose soil on the putting green may be removed without penalty.

A player plays their second shot, searches for the ball briefly and then goes back and drops another ball under penalty of stroke and distance. Before the player can play the dropped ball, the player's original ball is found within three minutes of when the player first started searching for it.

What is the ruling?

A - The player must continue with the original ball.

B - The player must continue with the dropped ball.

C - The player may choose whether to continue with the original ball or the dropped ball.

Correct answer: B

Explanation: Once the player put another ball in play under penalty of stroke and distance, the original ball is no longer in play and must not be played.

In match play, a player mistakenly picks up their ball-marker believing they have won a hole.

What is the ruling?

A - The player loses the hole.

B - There is no penalty and the player must replace the ball or ball-marker.

C - The player gets one penalty stroke and must replace the ball or ball-marker.

Correct answer: C

Explanation: The player gets one penalty stroke and must replace the ball.

In stroke play, a player removes an out of bounds stake which interferes with their swing.

What is the ruling?

A - There is no penalty.

B - The player gets two penalty strokes unless they replace the stake to eliminate any improvement and restore the original conditions.

C - The player gets two penalty strokes and cannot avoid the penalty even if they replace the stake.

Correct answer: B

Explanation: A boundary object cannot be moved to improve the conditions affecting the stroke. However, the player can avoid penalty by replacing the stake to eliminate any improvement and restore the original conditions.
