Hail the D.O.G.S.!!!!!
So we came to our fifth and penultimate round for 2023 with our friends from TeeSet joining us making a total of 65 players - a great turnout! Even though the Pondok Cabe Members tournament had taken place in the morning with 120 players we still tee'ed off on time for our shotgun on both the front and back nines. The conditions were extremely humid which made for a very hot and sticky afternoon - but dry - in terms of no rain. Play was steady and everyone was finished in good time to enjoy the customary festivities afterwards. A few cold beers went down very easily - along with some wine, whisky and sake!
A number of new faces this week: Andrew & Carter Cross, Gary Millburn, Claudio Titone, Dean Banks and a Thai contingent which included Nithapong, Pongthep, Sudjai, Than An and Vudhipon. A big welocme to you all and hope to see you many times in the future.
We also had to say farewell to Sami Kekonen who is moving on taking a new position in the KSA. We wish you all the best Sami and thank you for your support over the years. Keep in touch as we always like to hear how our past member's stories.
TeeSet decided not to run their tournament concurently and all players were included in the D.O.G.S round. So to the play:
Claudio Ghelli showed his accuracy on the greens taking one of the Nearest to the Pin and Drive & Pitch prizes with the the others going to Mike Seabrook and David Moore. The Logest Drive honours went to Nic Verdenal and Sami Kekonen - you'll be hitting over the dunes before too long mate!
Velma had her putter working well taking the Putting Champion prize but, rather uncharacteristically, Jens Roestel, managed to win this week's Booby Prize. Marc Desilets, this time wearing a real shirt, still managed to take the Most Exercise Trophy home - he's starting to rival Herr Berkenhoff!
Our guest Dean Banks took the Lowest Gross this week. The top prizes were taken by Sarah Brown as this week's Runner Up and Terence Martin, whom we haven't seen for a whil, the Little Dog as this week's Champion.
A big congratulations to all this week's winners.
A bit of unfinished business from last week - Andrew Goode gets his Little Dog.
Safe travels Sami - at least you can think of all your friends in the D.O.G.S. whilst sipping on your morning coffee!
So, now to the race for the Blue Jacket and the Big Dog! It's all changed from last week with Jude losing his 1 point lead at the top, now finding himself 0.7 points behind Nic Verdenal who now sits at the top. It might look as if it's all between these two but, as we have seen many times before, someone could come from behind and knock both off the top - there's only one way to find out - come and watch the fight next week!
You can see the full Eclectic results on the Leaderboard page or in the myGolf2u app as usual.
So, now we look forward to next week and our final Eclectic round of 2023 and, most importantly, our End of Year Party. If you haven't already done so please sign up and let us know if you want to bring any friends or family members to the party - all are welcome. There's a lot to look forward to - BBQ, drinks, a quiz, lot's of raffle prizes as well a review of the year and the presentation of the prizes for this Eclectic Series. We will also honour our Inter-league teams stars and award the Fritz Hainzl Memorial Trophy to the Top Dog of the Year and lots of music to get up and dance to! You only have to pay the usual game fee upon arrival - if you're golfing that is - all the rest is on us.
We are looking for sponsors for prizes at the party, please let us know if you know someone who might be interested in sponsorship.
So, grab a friend or two and sign up. Don't forget to let Rod know your preferred playing partners. Please also make sure you have confirmed that your preferred playing partners are their preferred playing partners!
Also note that signing up early helps a lot in getting things ready with the club - thanks.

The Rules and what it means when we play.
Jens Roestel
R&A First Grade Umpire.
The player’s second shot lands in the greenside bunker. The player hits the ball out of the bunker and it comes to rest just short of the green. The player removes the sand that landed both on the green and off the green using a towel as it was on
their line of play.
What is the ruling in stroke play?
A - There is no penalty.
B - The player gets one penalty stroke.
C - The player gets two penalty strokes.
Correct answer C
Explanation: There is no penalty for removing sand that lies on the putting green, but the player gets the general penalty for improving their line of play by removing sand in the general area.
Your 2nd shot comes to rest on the green. When putting, you hit the ball too hard and it rolls off the green into a bunker. You deem your ball unplayable and take relief by placing another ball on the putting green where you putted from and hole the next putt.
What is your score for the hole?
A - 4
B - 5
C – 7
Correct answer B
Explanation: Two shots onto the green One putt that rolls off the green One penalty stroke for taking unplayable relief under option 19.2a (stroke and distance relief) One putt that is holed Total = 5 strokes
Both players in a match due to start at 9.00am arrive late to the starting point. Player A arrives at 9.01am and Player B arrives at 9.03am.
What is the ruling?
A - Player B loses the first hole.
B - Both players get a loss of hole penalty and the result of the first hole is a tie.
C - Both players are disqualified.
Correct answer B
Explanation: As both players arrived late, but within 5 minutes of their starting time, they both get a loss of hole penalty and the result of the first hole is a tie. The match starts on the second hole all square.
If a player starts a round with fewer than 14 clubs and decides to add a driver to their bag that is longer than their other clubs, the driver is now used for measuring any relief areas.
A - True
B - False
Correct answer A
Explanation: If the player starts a round with fewer than 14 clubs and decides to add another club that is longer than the clubs they started with, the added club is used for measuring so long as it is not a putter.
A spider’s web is closely attached to a tree and interfering with your swing. You remove the web and play your shot onto the green.
What is the ruling?
A - There is no penalty.
B - You get one penalty stroke.
C - You get two penalty strokes.
Correct answer A
Explanation: A spider web is a loose impediment even though they are attached to another object and may be removed.
