D.O.G.S. Final Round & End of Year Party at Pondok Cabe Golf Club

Updated: Dec 26, 2023

Hail the D.O.G.S.!!!!!

And so we came to our last big event of 2023 with our final eclectic round and End of Year Party. Pondok Cabe was in great condition, and we all assembled in the main function room for registration with Bloody Mary's on offer. Some 68 players turned out with Andrew Goode making a special effort to get into the festive mood!

Pondok Cabe Golf Club closed the course just for the D.O.G.S. meaning we could all tee off on time using the full course for our customary shotgun start. A hot afternoon followed but pace of play was good so everyone was finished in very good time - all ready for the big party to follow.

Thanks to Christian Berkenhoff for helping Rod out driving the beer wagon around the course offering very welcome cold beers whilst we sipped on some very good Japanese Sake...thanks Christian! We'll get to the play shortly, but the day was also about thanking all the people who made this year as successful as it was and taking everyone through the highlights of the year.

So, we must start by thanking all our sponsors:

For the third year running, our Signature Sponsors.

And a big Thank You to all our other Sponsors.

Without all their help, events like this and throughout the year would not be possible.

As importantly, your Committee says a big Thank You to all of you who have supported the D.O.G.S. throughout the year. We are ultimately about providing a fun social environment for golf!

Let's now look at some of the year's highlights. Firstly, as you all know we collect for a series of charities throughout the year with a different one chosen for each Eclectic Series. You can check out the details of our charities by looking at the Charity page on our website.

This shows the amounts you have donated to our charities this year. A great result as our totals keep going up each year. This is an important aspect of who we are as a society and so a big Thank You to all of you for your contributions.

Now a look at the year's results: we played a total of 8 Eclectic Series and you can see the winners, number of rounds played and average number of players each week in the table. Overall, we had over 500 more rounds played in 2023 than we did in 2022 - that a significant increase - thanks again to you all!.

Captain Dougie led his team into the Inter-league again this year and the results can be seen here. He will lead again next year with the first round coming up in February.

David Moore was the runner up in the Inter-league MVP with Hitoshi Maruyama taking the top honours and the MVP trophy.

So, now let's look at the day's play:

A good spread of winners for our final round as can be seen in the table with Andrew Goode taking the Little Dog home - he seems to like this course as this is where he won his Blue Jacket way back in February.

Andrew Goode had toned down his wardrobe by the time he was presented with his Little Dog as our Weekly Champion!

Now we come to the much sought after Big Dog and Blue jacket. Could the iconic Frenchman hold on to his lead? Well, he did, so congratulations to Nic Verdenal for taking the Big Dog home and his first Blue Jacket and winning the Lowest Gross Average...a good day indeed!

You can see the full Eclectic results on the Leaderboard page or in the myGolf2u app as usual.

We also awarded the Fritz Hainzl Memorial Trophy to the Top Dog of the year. Here, points are awarded for attendance and your position in each Eclectic Series. This year the Top Dog Trophy was won by our very own Sarah Brown.

We also had to recognize Christian's very special achievements by winning 9 Most Exercise and 3 Booby Prizes throughout the year.....so he won a special Cricket Bat for the being the Most Persistent Golfer of the Year.

So, a huge congratulations to all our winners!

Now, as I hope we can all remember, we had a great party to help celebrate the year and here is just a small selection of the hundreds of photos taken during the day and evening.

You can see all the photos by following this link - EoYP Photos.

We also had a drone flying around during the day which resulted in a great video.

The Capricorn Birthday Tournament (formerly Rod's Birthday Round) - for Capricorn Birthday celebrants - Paul Barnett, David Moore, Rod Williams, John Brown, Albert Smith and Leon Bivolaru - will he held on Wednesday the 27th December at Pondok Cabe - it's up on myGolf2u - tee off will be by shotgun at 12 noon and the after party will be at the Bull & Vine - please register - it's not too late!

So now we look forward to the new year and our first Eclectic Round for 2024 will be at Riverside Golf & Country Club. Registration is open as usual, so, grab a friend or two and sign up. Don't forget to let Rod know your preferred playing partners. Please also make sure you have confirmed that your preferred playing partners are their preferred playing partners!
