D.O.G.S. Final Round at Pondok Cabe Golf & Country Club

Updated: Feb 24, 2020

Hail the D.O.G.S.!!!!!,

A very big day for the last round at Pondok Cabe for 2020. Not only the final round of the D.O.G.S. Eclectic, but a match play game against our mates from Pocksia followed by what is becoming our annual barbecue catered by the YHOG Charity. 50 plus golfers headed out onto the links led by the pairings for the match play.

The match play was played as a two player team best ball competition and each of the pairings had a close tussle. It was the Pocksia group that won the day 5-1/2 to 3-1/2 , with the D.O.G.S. relinquishing the trophy but will be ready to win it back next year.

A good time was had by all, especially as we got together and shared a few back at the clubhouse while enjoying the YHOG Barbeque. The YHOG boys put on a good spread that was enjoyed by all. Game fees from D.O.G.S. and Pocksia, barbecue profits and a whip around raised a total of 10 million rupiah for the YHOG Children with Cleft Palates charity, an outstanding result and thanks to everyone for their wonderful generosity! We live in a country where not everyone is as lucky as we are, and it's great be a part of an opportunity to help those less fortunate. YHOG cooking duties were handled by President Ralph Duckworth and Ed Bender Jr, who were both also D.O.G.S. golfers on the day, have passed on their thanks for both the opportunity and the outcome.

32 cards handed in for the D.O.G.S. final round. Despite some good scores not many improvements in the Eclectic. We had a brief stoppage about halfway around, waiting for a lightning storm to pass over, other than that and a few sprinkles of rain we had a good run with the weather and everybody completed their round. Good to see Dave Prosser back after a recent injury and welcome back to Maximillian and Susy Sollfrank who last played with us at Modern in 2019. They enjoyed the company so much they brought along Andrew and Sri Dillon for their first round with D.O.G.S., you picked a great day to join us. We haven't seen Bill Lloyd for a while either, and he'll be a little disappointed to have picked up the Booby Prize with a not too shabby 26 points. It was 41 points took the day however, with Malcolm Collis picking up his second Little Dog.

As mentioned, there wasn't a lot of movement on the Eclectic Leaderboard after our final round; leader since the 2nd round Axel Hertzke picked up his first Big Dog, taking the Lowest Gross title as well. Last year's Fritz Hainzl Trophy winner, Dougie McQuater got 2020 underway with a Runner Up trophy proving he'll be hard to catch this year as well! James Bristow was our 3rd place finisher. Check out the Leaderboard to see the full results. So ends the Pondok Cabe Tournament for 2020.

Many thanks as usual to John and Sarah Brown for the wonderful work they do behind the scenes organising our courses and trophies. And thanks of course to fellow organisers Craig Edwards, Rod Williams (good to have you back) and our MC Kevin Dobson. Look forward to seeing you all at our next venue.
