D.O.G.S. Fourth Round at Matoa Nasional Golf Course

Hail the D.O.G.S.!!!!!

34 D.O.G.S. turned up for our potluck pairings round. A heavy rain shower started just as the first groups went to the tee boxes. This delayed about half the players but soon enough it cleared and play was underway, with lift, clean and place allowed (except for Craig). The weather stayed clear the rest of the day allowing for a very enjoyable day on the course.

Welcome to Guillaume de Gantes and Inggit Glass who joined us for their first D.O.G.S. round. Thank you for joining us, we look forward to seeing you again soon.

Gary Danskin had a great day shooting a 75 while winning Nearest to Pin, Drive & Pitch and Lowest Gross. Sarah Brown flexed her muscles with a Longest Drive and Newcomer Inggit Glass won the Most Exercise. The most excited person in the clubhouse was Katsuaki "Taka" Takahashi who won the Little Dog as Weekly Champion on countback over Laurie O'Connor.

The celebration of Taka's win went a bit late into the evening with several D.O.G.S. graciously helping Taka finish of his gin and increasing the club's beer sales.

Congratulations to all of our winners! As always full results are posted on our Leaderboard.

Two weeks to go and the competition for the Big Dog is developing nicely. 8 players are below 70 net with Gary Danskin holding a small lead over Guarav Shirke. There is plenty of golf left and should either of these guys get complacent the pack will run right over them.

Next week Pocksia, SMoGs and Tee Set will be joining us for a 4 way competition. Come out and support Captain Dougy McQuater and the team as the D.O.G.S. try to get a W in this first ever 4 way match. Get up off the couch grab a friend and come on out and join us.

Rules

New Rules and what it means when we play.

Question:

If your ball strikes an overhead power line and ends up in a hazard, are you entitled to a repeat shot without penalty?

The answer depends on the club's Local Rules.

Rule 11.1 If a player’s ball in motion accidentally hits any person or outside influence:

There is no penalty to any player.

Rule 11.1b If a player’s ball in motion accidentally hits any person or outside influence, the ball must be played as it lies..........

I have abbreviated these Rules but you can read them in full in your rule book.

The power lines fall into the category of "outside influence".

The answer therefore is that you must play from the hazard (now called a penalty zone).

However, if the power lines are a permanent feature on your course the committee should have a Local Rule as below:

Model Local Rule E-11

"If it is known or virtually certain that a player's ball hit a power line [or tower or a wire or pole supporting a power line] during the play of [specify hole number], the stroke does not count. The player must play a ball without penalty from where the previous stroke was made (see Rule 14.6 for what to do).

This shows the importance of checking Local Rules before play.

mygolf2u

Thank you to everyone who is now using mygolf2u. We are seeing continued increase in usage each week.

As we will be moving to this platform, and away from our current system in 2021, players are encouraged to use mygolf2u each time they play a round outside of D.O.G.S. This will ensure a player has their most accurate handicap. We do not have the ability to enter scores outside our rounds on behalf of players.

If you are having trouble with the app you can also use their web portal found at m.mygolf2u.com

Should you have any questions or need assistance please see Rod Williams our mygolf2u liaison.

Charity

Please look for our charity barrel after the round. Matoa tournament beneficiary will be Indonesian Street Children Organisation more commonly known as ISCO. Founded by Josef Fuchs, who played D.O.G.S. regularly in the early days, ISCO has been in existence for over 20 years helping to provide education for street children in Indonesia. Some success stories:

  • ISCO is active in bringing education to over 2,500 disadvantaged children in Indonesia.

  • ISCO guarantees a job for every sponsored child, who reaches graduation at senior high school.

  • This year, we have already found more than 100 jobs for them, also thanks to you, who frequently attend this popular and very inclusive weekly social gathering.

  • 42 are presently studying in different universities.

  • In total, already more than 6,000 children went through our education programs.

  • See more about ISCO at www.iscofoundation.org

Jens Roestel arranges the ISCO Monthly Golf Charity Tournament which many of us play in. Jochen Overberg and Axel Hertzke hosted the last 2 German Open Cups which benefit ISCO as defending champions.
