D.O.G.S. Second Round at Riverside Golf Club

Hail the D.O.G.S.!!!!!,

Another large turnout with 42 players submitting scores. The course was quite packed when the D.O.G.S. turned up but we were able to begin teeing off near the appointed tee time. Slow play plagued the front nine but eventually the pace increased and everyone was able to enjoy a good round. Lightning and thunder threatened on the back nine swirling around the course but in the end did not cause any problems, leaving the D.O.G.S. nice and dry.

Deemples use is increasing and we saw several newcomers find us this week via the handy app; welcome to Jeff Lampe, Michal Lukasik and Otong Warto Prayipno. Looking forward to seeing more of you in future rounds.

Bob St. Aubin was visiting from Thailand and brought along Gavin Webb, who played a round our two with us many many years ago. Glad you both made it and thanks for the after round beers donated to the cause Bob!

After the dust settled and scores were tallied Keith Gorman was found at the top of the pile winning the Little Dog for Weekly Champion. Congratulations Keith!

Next week Yayasan HOG Indonesian Chapter (YHOG) commonly known as the HOGs will be joining us for HOGs and D.O.G.S. Day. As we normally do on these occasions, all game fees and fines are donated to them to support their efforts with Gentur Cleft Foundation. Read more about YHOG and this worthy cause here.

D.O.G.S. Vs Tee Set

The date of D.O.G.S. versus Tee Set match is set for May 26 at Rancamaya. As with previous years, Tee Set will be holding their annual party the night before at the course, setting up a great D.O.G.S. & Tee Set weekend.

Details for the weekend can be found on our website here.

Once again, Mark Johnson will be our Captain and is actively recruiting players. If you would like to represent the D.O.G.S. please let us know.

Scorecard Notes

Accuracy is important and helps the Committee to get scores posted quickly and correctly. In support of this we request that following your round please take a moment to confirm your scorecard is correctly filled out. Some errors we keep seeing are; scorecards not signed, tee box not ticked and math errors. Your support in making sure all is correct is much appreciated.

Handicaps

Some players have come forward with concerns that the handicaps we have on record are not correct. The root cause of this, in most cases, is lack of sufficient scores. A minimum of 5 cards is needed to establish a handicap but 20 are needed to have an accurate handicap. To help with getting enough scores in and keeping handicaps up to date, we would like to remind everyone that you are encouraged to submit scores from your rounds outside of D.O.G.S. and Tee Set play. Send us in a scanned copy of your signed scorecard for any Jakarta area courses and we will get them into the database. Don't forget to let us know which tees were used.

Rancamaya Schedule

Due to the date of Idul Fitri this year we will only be able to play 4 rounds during Lebaran at Rancamaya. Rather than having an abbreviated Eclectic tournament we have decided to have some fun rounds this year.

Week 1: Alternate Shot format.

  • Players A and B partner with one another on an alternate shot team, or side. They decide among themselves who tees off first on the first hole. Let's say they decide on Player A to hit the opening tee ball. So on the first hole, A hits the tee shot. They walk to the ball, and Player B hits the second shot. The third stroke is played by Player A. Then Player B hits the fourth. They alternate hitting shots until the ball is in the hole.

  • They also alternate hitting tee shots, so since in our example, Player A hit the drive on the first hole, on the second hole Player B tees off, and so on throughout the round.

Week 2: Potluck Pairings where groups are chosen randomly allowing for players to mix in with others they may not have played with before. Competition will be Stableford with a Little Dog awarded to the highest points.

Week 3: D.O.G.S. vs Tee Set match with Stableford competition run alongside.

Week 4: Red vs Blue Team competition. Teams will be drawn randomly on day of play and proceed to have a match play competition.

If you have any other suggestions please share them with us.
