Hail the D.O.G.S.!!!!!
So we came to our sixth and final round up the hill at Rainbow Hills. No traffic woes this week which meant everyone arrived in good time to relax and wonder if we could possibly have a dry round - reference to the rain not the refreshment, of course!
Good to see some old faces back again including The Mighty Frenchy, Nic Verdenal, making a surprise visit for the weekend!. Other old faces like Mark Blake, Tony Wood and Ash Hewitt, now just about fully recovered from his torn muscle on the 3rd hole at Royale Krakatau back in March. Great to see every one making a total of 31 golfers.
The starters have done us proud this year, so a big Thank You to them as we again got off slightly early under promising skies - promising yes, but for what. Well, as the lead groups got to their 2nd teeboxes the rains came for what turned out to be a fairly quick but heavy shower. After only a short stop in the proceedings, play resumed and we had an uninterrupted round helped by the fantastic drainage on the course. So, all finished just before dark so we could relax in the club house to see who the winners and almost winners were going to be.
Just a warning here as you can see in the video, if you play with the top man from TeeSet you have to suffer the consequences - how fitting it should be our President to show us the way! - thanks JB.
So, to the play and a reasonable mix of winners this week. However, Frenchy wanted to make sure he didn't go back to Singapore empty handed by taking one of the Longest Drive and Drive & Pitch prizes. Shinta is really playing some steady golf these days taking one of the Nearest to the Pin and the other Long Drive honours. Axel went home with the other Nearest to the Pin and Richard Mau the other Drive & Pitch prizes.
Normal service was resumed with Roger "the green dodger" Finnie taking the low putts prize. Colin Shanks and John Hawkins had a pleasant afternoon taking the Booby and Most Exercise trophies - you'd never believe they're in the same business would you!
Mark Blake broke the usual trend of Low Gross winners this week - good to see!
Normally 40 points would get the Little Dog, but Richard had to settle for Runner Up making way for Roger Finnie to take the little dog home and become this week's Champion - a great round with his relatively low handicap.
Congratulations to all of this week's winners.
So, with such a rain affected Eclectic and most people only completing 3 full rounds, the rest being partial rounds, it was difficult to see how the chase for the Blue Jacket would pan out. Remember, all holes completed count towards the final eclectic result. After her fantastic round last week Agnes was leading going into the final round but, as all should note, a fantastic round has consequences - it pulls your handicap down which will in itself have a bearing on your Eclectic result. So, for Agnes to be able to hold off the chasing pack she needed to make several improvements.
Well, it was not to be but for sure she will be a serious contender next time!. The final result went down to the wire but this time Roger had to settle for Runner Up with Hitoshi taking the other mini-dog for being third (again). This left the way for Richard Mau to claim his third Blue Jacket and the Low Gross Average trophy - which was limited to 3 rounds this time. Full results can be found on the leaderboard.
Our Charity Barrel donations amounted to 3,050,000 from this tournament. The D.O.G.S. will add 1,350,000 IDR to this to fund the next school year for Sarah, Qisya, Riyan and Zahir who are the students we are sponsoring through the ANZA Student Sponsorship Program. Below is an update from ANZA on the students, as well as thank you notes from them.
In July 2025, a new school year begins and Sarah will be moving up to Year 4 at At Taqwa, Qisya to Year 5 at Esti Bakti, while Riyan and Zahir will be in Year 6 at Esti Bakti and At Taqwa respectively.
Khairani has both now completed Year 6 and I am delighted to say she has secured a place at a Negeri Junior High school for Year 7, so she will no longer need the support of the program.
We wish Khairani all the best for the future and thank you and everyone at D.O.G.S for your kindness and support in sponsoring and making it possible for her to finish this important first stage of her education.
So, we move on. Next, we turn to Permata Sentul, a course with an interesting layout and some new challenges. Looking beyond that - The order for our 20th anniversary shirts will go in this week. Check out our Shirts page and place your order.
