First Round at Imperial Klub Golf

Hail the D.O.G.S. !!!!!

Heavy rains Friday night and Saturday morning coupled with a poor outlook on the weather forecast had the D.O.G.S. in the WhatsApp group chatting on whether we would be able to get our inaugural round of 2026 played. Nonetheless everyone who was signed up turned up at the course to give it a go.

An early start established the day's rhythm, with groups teeing off on 1 and 10, with the fairways clear as the morning groups had moved on. The pace was brisk, and mindful of potential rain, the groups progressed smoothly without delay. A brief, light shower appeared on

the back nine but had no impact on play, allowing the groups to finish dry and right around the four-hour mark.

Welcome back to Jeff Colbert who we have not seen in very many years. Jeff won the Eclectic at Imperial 14 years ago in 2022 and we took the opportunity of him joining us to award him his long overdue Blue Jacket. Great to see you again Jeff!

Paul Eckhardt couldn't join us for the End of Year Party so prior to awarding the days prizes we gave the 2025 Gunung Geulis Eclectic Champion his Blue Jacket as well.

With the old business concluded, it was time to honour the Round 1 winners. First up to collect their Nearest to Pin prizes were Kevin Dobson and Aknes. Jeff Colbert and Ezra Alexander confidently stepped forward to receive their Longest Drives prizes. The Drive and Pitch prizes were awarded to Jude Alexander and Jeff.

Hitoshi Maruyama dominated the greens, securing the title of Putting Champion. Axel Hertzke, had an uncharacteristic off week, claiming the Booby Prize, while Kevin Dobson earned the Most Exercise award. However, a little drama brewed with these two awards. Poor Ash Hewitt was having a day on the course that even his golf clubs wanted to forget. As he approached the final hole, he realized there was only one surefire way to dodge winning either prize—so he pulled a Houdini and opted for the WD exit strategy. Boo!

Don Dutlinger was a late entry for the round but was glad he made it as he was Runner Up. Having been gone so long he wanted to make a strong impression on his return; so, adding to his haul of a Blue Jacket and 2 skill prizes Jeff Colbert was back up in front of the group to collect Lowest Gross and Weekly Champion. That's an impressive day Jeff!

As announced previously we are very delighted that Imperial is hosting “The Imperial Klub Golf – Rod Williams Memorial Challenge.” The winner will be the player who accumulates the highest total Stableford points across the 6 rounds of the tournament. The champion will be awarded four green fee vouchers, valid including weekends.

Manila Dogs 25th Anniversary

Our founder, Fritz Hainzl, was originally a member of the Manila Dogs. When he moved to Jakarta, he saw an opportunity and created a similar organization—what we now know as the Djakarta Old Golf Society or D.O.G.S.

On Sunday, March 14, 2026, the Manila Dogs will be celebrating their 25th Anniversary at Club Intramuros Golf Course in Manila.
