D.O.G.S. First Round at Senayan National Golf Club

Hail the D.O.G.S.!!!!!,

Our first round at Senayan National Golf Club saw 21 golfers at the course enjoying the ambiance and eagerly awaiting to tee off on what turned out to be a very pleasant day for golf in the city.

The course management had us off on time without incident. Following the lightning fast golf polo at Riverside, where each player had their own cart and were allowed on fairways with them, the pace felt a bit relaxed. Nonetheless the D.O.G.S. were able to move around the course steadily without waiting and were in the clubhouse, showered and enjoying the late afternoon weather well before 17:00.

Welcome to Oliver Anderson and Mark Dempsey who joined us for their annual D.O.G.S. round. Thanks for coming out guys; hopefully we'll see more of you on this tilt.

The Committee has been demonstrating quite the prowess (lack of) on the course since coming back from hiatus with Craig Edwards (2) and John Brown (1) winning 3 of the last 4 Booby Prizes. Not to be left out, fellow members Sarah Brown and Kevin Dobson got in on the action this week, respectively taking Booby and Most Exercise prizes.

James Bristow gets another Little Dog

With this being Remon Moerman's adopted home course we were expecting some fireworks from him; alas a Nearest to Pin was the only prize he managed this week. He may be holding back allowing everyone else to get a false sense of confidence. Tribhuvan Singh was a 2 prize winner taking the other Nearest to the Pin and Runner Up on countback. While Sarah Brown didn't have her best scoring day she showed she can still hit a long ball taking Longest Drive on 11. Eric Mary took the Longest Drive on 5 but it should be noted that Sarah was way past him on that hole also, unfortunately about 1 inch into the rough. After an up and down showing at Riverside James Bristow put together a great round with his 80 taking Lowest Gross and his 37 points winning Weekly Champion.

Congratulations to all of our winners! Full results can be viewed on our Leaderboard.

While some tend to focus on features of Senayan which they dislike, this course has a lot to offer and is not a pushover; it has some unique features, beautiful scenery, tricky par 3's and fairways that make you chose your club on the tee wisely. Playing on a luscious green course in the heart of a concrete jungle with buildings rising up all around is a fascinating experience in itself. For those of us living in Jakarta the short commute is also welcome. Grab a friend and come out and join us for our next round.

Result of a thrown club.

Lastly, and with some amount of shame, we regretfully inform that we are receiving increasing reports of club throwing. Golf can be a very frustrating game, however a good portion of D.O.G.S. membership are of an age where they should have firm control of their emotions and frustration is no excuse for bad behaviour. Golf clubs should be used only for hitting the golf ball (or measuring your drop zone) and then placed back in the bag or handed to caddy. In the not too distant past one of our members was severely injured in an outside event as a result of a club being thrown. We do not want to have that experience at one of our rounds or hear about it happening elsewhere. We are asking players to police themselves on this. If someone in your group throws a club please do call them out on it with the assurance that you have the entire D.O.G.S. membership behind you. Besides being dangerous, club throwing disturbs everyone in your group and takes away from their enjoyment.

Remember each individual's actions on the course do not only reflect on them but also reflect on the entire D.O.G.S. membership. Please take some time to visit our Etiquette page for a quick reminder on how we should present ourselves on the course.

Regards,

jb
