Hail the D.O.G.S.!!!!!
Our friends from POCKSIA joined us this week making a combined total of 63 players for our second round at Pondok Cabe. The course was in excellent condition with very consistent and fast greens. The rain we have had in the past few days made the course greener and certainly played better for it. Pondok Cabe gave us a semi shotgun start off the back nine and Hole 1 which meant that the pace of play was good and everyone finished in reasonable time - and just before the storms rolled in - lucky again!
On the D.O.G.S. side we had a couple of new faces in Marc Desilets and Juan Carlos Portillo and it was good to see Phil Darwent back after many months - good to have all of you.
All 63 players were eligible for the D.O.G.S. tournament and for the welcome Bloody Mary's provided by Pocksia served before we got underway.
So, to the play: The Dogs contingent pretty much ruled the day on the prizes front with one notable exception - more on that later! Steve Sutton and Axel Hertzke held on to the fast greens to take the Nearest to the Pin prizes as did Nic Verdenal and Andrew Goode for the Drive & Pitch prizes. Nic and Ash Hewitt creamed it off the tees to take the Longest Drive prizes whilst Roger Finnie clearly won the Putting Champion prize this week on these fast greens.
Christian Berkenhoff managed to slightly improve on his score from last week but still it wasn't enough to avoid taking home yet another Most Exercise trophy. Just so the Pocksia contingent didn't go home completely empty handed, Alastair Livingston was victorious in winning the Booby Prize cricket bat which was presented to him in the Bull & Vine during the Pocksia evening prize giving.
It took a count back to separate the top prize winners with Ash Hewitt having to settle for the Runner Up spot whilst Roger Finnie took both the Lowest Gross and Little Dog prizes home as this week's Champion.
A big congratulations to all this week's winners.
David Moore hitting a great drive on Hole 14!
With 2 rounds now complete we are beginning to see the usual shuffle at the top of the leaderboard for the Eclectic with Jude Alexander now holding a slim lead over Viboon Seeshaan but there's a long long way to go yet. You can see the full Eclectic results on the Leaderboard page or in the myGolf2u app as usual.
Our final round of 2023 is December 16th and our End of Year Party will follow immediately after the round in the clubhouse. As always non-playing guests are most welcome and encouraged to attend. Players who register in myGolf2u will be automatically registered for the party. If you do plan on bringing a guest please RSVP here so that we have the correct numbers for catering arrangements. Most importantly, please sign up as soon as possible, this will help the committee considerably.
We are looking for sponsors for prizes at the party, please let us know if you know someone who might be interested in sponsorship.
Next week we are playing on SUNDAY, and TeeSet is joining us while holding their championship. Players are eligible to play in both events simultaneously, however there is an extra fee for players attending the TeeSet party after golf. Players wishing to attend TeeSet's dinner after the round are welcome for a charge of 300.000 IDR payable to them directly at registration. Contact Micheal Seabrook by Tuesday to confirm so they can arrange catering. D.O.G.S. prize awarding will be after golf and, as usual, for free.
So, grab a friend or two and sign up. Don't forget to let Rod know your preferred playing partners. Please also make sure you have confirmed that your preferred playing partners are their preferred playing partners!
Also note that signing up early helps a lot in getting things ready with the club - thanks.

R&A First Grade Umpire.
In a foursomes competition, when a side is required to drop a
ball, who may drop the ball?
A - Only the player whose turn it is to play.
B - Only the player who played the previous stroke.
C - Either of the partners.
Correct answer: C
Explanation: Either partner may take any allowed action for the side before the stroke is made, such as marking and lifting, replacing, dropping and placing the ball, no matter which partner's turn it is to play next for the side.
During a round a player runs out of balls.
What is the ruling?
A - The player must abandon their round.
B - The player may get a conforming ball to play from anyone else.
C - The player is disqualified.
Correct answer: B
Explanation: A player may get a conforming ball to play from anyone else, including another player on the course.
In a match whilst waiting to play on a Par 3, a player gets their caddie to lift the towel covering the opponent’s clubs to see which club their opponent is going to use.
What is the ruling?
A - There is no penalty.
B - The player gets one penalty stroke.
C - The player loses the hole.
Correct answer: C
Explanation: Player must not touch another player’s equipment to learn information that would be advice if given by or asked of the other player. A Player is also responsible for their caddie’s actions. But if there is no towel and the caddy only looks to see, which club is used, this is penalty free.
Your 2nd shot comes to rest on the green. When putting, you hit the ball too hard and it rolls off the green into a bunker. You deem your ball unplayable and take relief by placing another ball on the putting green where you putted from and hole the next putt.
What is your score for the hole?
A - 4
B - 5
C – 7
Correct answer: B
Explanation: Two shots onto the green. One putt that rolls off
the green. One penalty stroke for taking unplayable relief under option stroke
and distance relief. One putt that is holed. Total = 5 strokes

Pondok Cabe Charity Benificiary
Our charity for this series will be the ANZA Student Sponsorship Program
The program was started in 1988 by Marilyn Ardipradja, initially with 22 students sponsored by 19 sponsors, and has grown over the past thirty years to help approximately 500 students per school year. The program provides financial assistance to enable disadvantaged Indonesian children to go to school and is funded by sponsorship rather than ANZA’s own social welfare funds.
Last years donations were enough to cover the education of 6 children. 2, Dafy and Yoga, have received their Elementary Certificate and the Kartu Jakarta Pintar (KJP) now covers all their school fees for Junior High.

Sarah, Zahir, Qisya and Riyan will continue at elementary and still require support.
Your contributions make a huge difference to these children's lives so please let's all continue to support them.
